Continuing a Legacy: Rotary Club of Hamilton Steps Up to Lead the CHML Children’s Fund, Christmas Tree of Hope and Operations Santa Claus

Since 1976, the CHML Children’s Fund and the Christmas Tree of Hope have been symbols of hope and generosity in Hamilton, raising more than $6 million to support children and families in need. These cherished traditions have become a vital part of our community, especially during the holiday season. Now, as the torch is passed, the Rotary Club of Hamilton is proud to step up and ensure that this legacy continues, bringing new life to traditions that have touched countless lives.

Founded in 1913, the Rotary Club of Hamilton has a long history of service and dedication to our city. Over the years, Rotary has partnered with CHML to raise vital funds, ensuring that the money collected is distributed to support local children’s charities. With the recent transition of the CHML Children’s Fund, Christmas Tree of Hope, and Operation Santa Claus under Rotary’s stewardship, we are committed to carrying forward this legacy with the same passion and dedication that have marked its success for nearly half a century.

President-elect Adam Oldfield, who has deep personal ties to the CHML Christmas Tree of Hope, shares his excitement about this new chapter. “Many years ago, when I started in radio, I had the opportunity to work with the CHML Christmas Tree of Hope, including Blitz Day and raising funds throughout the winter. It was a great honour, and it will be once again an opportunity to step back into the shoes of raising awareness in our community and money for our local charities right here in our backyard.”

This transition comes at a time when the Rotary Club of Hamilton is already deeply engaged in supporting local children’s charities, including our Summer Literacy Camp and the Cathy Weaver Christmas Celebration. These initiatives, much like the CHML Children’s Fund, are dedicated to ensuring that every child in our community has access to the resources they need to thrive. By taking on the leadership of the CHML Children’s Fund, Christmas Tree of Hope, and Operation Santa Claus, Rotary is not only continuing a legacy but also building on it, expanding our reach and impact within the community.

President Laura Farr echoes this sentiment, stating, “This is just another example of how the Rotary Club of Hamilton continues to give in our community, embodying our motto of ‘Service Above Self.’ As we develop and grow, we will be working with our media partners to raise awareness and encourage donations. We are committed to ensuring that the Rotary CHML Children’s Fund, Christmas Tree of Hope, and Operation Santa Claus remain pillars of support for the children in our community.”

As we move forward, our efforts will include maintaining beloved traditions like the Christmas Tree of Hope lighting ceremony in downtown Hamilton and the ongoing fundraising efforts through Operation Santa Claus. We will also leverage our relationships with media partners to ensure that the community is aware of the ways they can continue to contribute, whether through donations on our website or by participating in local toy drives.

The Rotary Club of Hamilton is honoured to take on this responsibility, and we are committed to ensuring that the CHML Children’s Fund, Christmas Tree of Hope, and Operation Santa Claus continue to be sources of hope and support for those who need it most. This transition is not just a continuation of a legacy; it is an opportunity to build on the foundation that has been laid over the past four decades, ensuring that future generations of Hamiltonians will benefit from the generosity and kindness of our community.

As we embark on this new chapter, we invite everyone in Hamilton to join us in supporting the Rotary CHML Children’s Fund, Christmas Tree of Hope, and Operation Santa Claus. Together, we can ensure that the light of the Christmas Tree of Hope continues to shine brightly for years to come.
