Giving Thanks, Rotary Style — From Pilgrim Hats to Helping Hands
Every Thanksgiving, I’m reminded of just how much we have to be grateful for here in Hamilton — not just the turkey, the pie, or the extra stretchy pants — but the people who make our community what it is.
Now, if you’re wondering about that photo of the guy in the pilgrim outfit… yes, that’s me. Back in my radio days with 900 CHML and Y95, I was delivering 25-pound turkeys across Hamilton as part of a Thanksgiving giveaway. Let’s just say, between the frozen birds and the costume, it was a memorable day — and probably explains why I stuck to microphones instead of modelling.
Fast-forward to today, and while I might not be delivering turkeys, I am incredibly thankful to be serving as President of the Rotary Club of Hamilton — a club that’s been part of this city since 1913. Over the decades, we’ve done some amazing things:
Keeping the Christmas Tree of Hope shining bright each holiday season 🌲
Taking on Operation Santa Claus after CHML closed, to make sure kids still feel the magic 🎁
Supporting youth programs, literacy, and community projects that build hope year-round
Rotary is more than meetings and fundraisers — it’s laughter, friendship, and the shared joy of doing good together. There’s no politics, no borders, and no hidden agenda — just good people who want to make Hamilton a little brighter.
If you’ve ever thought about getting involved or giving back, I’d love to have you join us. Visit rotaryclubhamilton.ca/membership — and maybe next year, we’ll get you in a pilgrim hat too.
Happy Thanksgiving, Hamilton! 🦃
Warm regards,
Adam Oldfield
