Rotary Children’s Christmas Celebration
FILLING TUMMIES & PUTTING SMILES ON FACES OF CHILDREN
For the past 25 years, the Rotary Children’s Christmas Celebration has been bringing joy and happiness to hundreds of inner-city children in Hamilton. This amazing program has been supported by the Rotary Club of Hamilton and has been an integral part of the Weaver COREKid Program.
The event is a festive day that provides a meal and a gift for children who may not have had the opportunity to enjoy the Christmas celebration. The day is filled with entertainment, fun, and laughter, all of which are made possible by the efforts of volunteers and Rotarians who work tirelessly to ensure that the children have a magical day.
The highlight of the day is the traditional (Halal) turkey dinner that is served to the children. The delicious food is provided by generous donors who understand the importance of giving back to the community. The children get to enjoy a meal that they may not have had otherwise, and the smiles on their faces make all the hard work worth it.
In addition to the meal, every child is given a warm gloves or mittens, a toque and a new book. The gifts are generously donated by individuals and businesses in the community who want to make a difference in the lives of these children. For many of the children, this may be the only gift they receive during the holiday season, so it is truly a special moment for them.
The event is held at Cathy Wever School, and the gym is transformed into a festive wonderland. The children are entertained with music, games, and other activities, all of which are designed to bring them joy and happiness. Volunteers work tirelessly to make the day special for the children, and their efforts do not go unnoticed.
The Rotary Children’s Christmas Celebration has become a tradition in Hamilton, and it is a testament to the generosity and kindness of the community. The event has grown over the years, and now more than 650 children are served each year.
