THE WEVER CORE – CORE Kids

The Wever CORE is focusing the efforts and passion of the community on creating a CORE program-based environment in the neighbourhood. By bringing partners, community members, children, youth and families together, we can strive to improve our neighbourhood and equip young people with the tools to succeed and the hope of a bright future.

What we want for our participants is the same thing everyone wants for their own children: to be safe and healthy, graduate high school and go onto post-secondary education, find a career that they love and give back to their community. WE R CORE!

COREKids Programs

The COREKids Program is a community-based initiative that provides barrier-free, camp-style programs and activities for children and youth in the Landsdale–Gibson (Wever Hub) neighbourhoods. Focused on accessibility, inclusion, and enrichment, the program creates opportunities beyond the classroom where every child is welcomed and supported.

By removing financial, social, and physical barriers, COREKids ensures that children and youth can take part in safe, engaging, and meaningful experiences that promote learning, growth, and connection. Through recreation, creativity, and community engagement, the program nurtures confidence, friendships, and a strong sense of belonging.

Children enjoy a wide range of extracurricular options, including after-school programs in basketball, soccer, dance, crafts, and more. The program also brings the community together through seasonal celebrations, with special activities at Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. These events add an extra layer of fun and connection, fostering a sense of belonging and joy. The program also includes the opportunity to participate in several literacy initiatives including the Rotary Summer Literacy Program and participation in Junior Achievement programs.

By combining recreation, literacy, creativity, and community spirit, the program supports children’s physical health, social development, and self-confidence, while creating memorable experiences in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The COREKids Program, operated by the Rotary Club of Hamilton through support from various funders and donors, continues to be a cornerstone of after-school and community engagement in the Wever Hub. By providing free, accessible, and inclusive programming, COREKids has become a trusted space for children, youth, and families. It strengthens literacy, promotes healthy living, builds leadership skills, and fosters community connection in one of Hamilton’s most underserved neighbourhoods.
